Relation to course subjects and my thoughts This week we learned about transportation, which is vital in enhancing the quality of life of Americans and ensuring that the country’s national interests are met (“Department of Transportation.” Par. 1). This related to the OM core since it involves efficiency in terms of eliminating delays and cost. It was evident that the US Department of Transportation is concerned with maintenance and development of transportation systems and infrastructure, and formulation of related policies in the country. Though the PPT is short, it contains vital information about the department’s strategic goals for the period 2014-2018 and other stakeholders involved. By describing transport situation in Europe including the achievements and challenges, the documents reveals that we can solve many of the issues that we are currently facing on our roads. I realized that we have not achieved cleaner energy and pollution on our roads is still high. I think the document would help policymakers in our country make more informed measures to ensure that the transport sector contributes effectively to every citizen’s socio-economic well-being

Relation to course subjects and my thoughts In this activity, I learned that strong transport connections are necessary for the growth of trade and economy. Moreover, they create jobs and bring about prosperity. The reading focused majorly on the European Union: its transportation policy, how it works, what it does, the main means of transport, and the future of the continent’s policy. This relates to OM core: reliability, planning, quality, cost, and availability. Through the activity involved reading several pages, it was helpful since it explains Europe has successfully managed to connect businesses and citizens within its territories, and thereby to ensure strong economic growth, job creation, and improved quality of life. As I have always thought, research and innovation are necessary to ensure that a country’s transport sector is competitive. Moreover, I have learned that administrative and technical barriers in addition to missing links are the main hindrances to smooth trade and traffic flaws in a country. I have acquired vital knowledge that I can apply as a policymaker.

Relation to course subjects and my thoughts In this reading, I learned the approach being undertaken by the US Department of Transportation to achieve the five strategic goals namely: safety, state of good repair, improved quality of life in communities, economic competitiveness, and environmental sustainability. The reading related to the OM core: convenience, safety, efficiency, sustainability, and efficiency. Though the reading was long, it provided important information about the department’s strategic objectives and goals. The department’s efforts will be in line with the current trends in economic growth and population increase that have heightened pressure on the present transport systems and infrastructure.
