SCM Guidelines for Weekly Activity Report

The weekly activity report is a way to ensure you are prepared for in-class discussions.

Each week, before the class meeting time, you should have read all the contents in the weekly folder, write down your thoughts, and bring a printout of your work activity report to class. I will stamp them each week and collect them in the end of the quarter for grading.

Grading is done not weekly but once a quarter in the end, based on the quantity, and quality of the entries. The page limit is ONE, back to back, each week, using the template below.

Important: Copying/pasting other people’s work without citing sources is considered plagiarism and will result in no credit for the work.SCM Guidelines for Weekly Activity Report

Title 2.1 MO and quality philosophy
One sentence summary Five slides explain work ethics, mode of operations, and (different) views of quality in Japan and America.
Relation to course subjects and my thoughts This week we learn about the foundation of supply chain management: OM, goods, and services. Of the utmost importance before we manage anything is our quality philosophy: what level of quality do we want to achieve and how are we going to achieve it? This relates to the OM core: Efficiency, Cost, and Quality. The PPT is short and powerful because it explains how we should get things done (right at the first time!) and what we can learn from the Japanese and Americans. Most of the things I do I follow the Mise En Place principle without knowing it. Now I have an additional tool in my toolbox that I can use to help me manage.

Title How Third Party Logistics fits in the Supply Chain
One sentence summary Clip shows the supply chain which starts from the raw materials to transportation to a distributer, the logistical challenges that can significantly be managed by 3PL which also give you the ability to expand one’s reach across the globe.
Relation to course subjects and my thoughts The clip relates to the course subjects as it introduces the basics of what constitutes third-party logistics and their purpose. It portrays third-party logistics as company’s utilization of a third party business to outsource elements of the supply chain including processing, distribution and fulfillment services among others. As precise as the clip is, it conclusively gives a glimpse of third party logistics and why supply chains should adopt them. Personally, the clip gives me an informed view of how vital 3PLs are in every aspect of businesses. The supply chain is a very extensive part of business and if 3PL can manage it, then it can as well be the backbone of any business.

Title The Apparel Logistics Group- Apparel Third Party Logistics Services
One sentence summary The clip is on a 3PL provider (the apparel logistics group) and some of the activities it undertakes namely warehousing and transportation.
Relation to course subjects and my thoughts The clip relates to course objectives as it gives a wholesome and practical understanding of the purpose of 3PLs, some of the 3PL services including unloading of containers, a number of 3PL technologies and inventories, resources in researching, accounting, design, customer service, merchandize administration, vendor manage inventory, quality control and information technology. It also outlines the advantages of using 3PL. Finally, clip also gives an insight on 3PL technologies and how they can be utilized to facilitate the logistic groups’ services. While such providers as the Apparel logistics Group are always keen to outline the advantages of outsourcing to them, I believe that they fail to address the reality that also comes with using them. The company will definitely loss control and core competency. Furthermore, the issue of sweatshops in 3PL providers is becoming increasingly worrying and companies should be careful not to associate with or outsource to companies which mistreat workers.
