My Views About Writing

The several books that we have read from different authors have given me a broad overview concerning prose writing and helped to deepen, broaden and improve my own writing practice. By exploring a number of elements in the writing process, I have acquired the necessary knowledge to brainstorm, draft, structure, critique, polish, share, rewrite, and reflect on my writing. Key principles that are required to achieve good writing have also been discussed. Having sound knowledge about challenges such as writer’s block, procrastination, difficulty in using sources appropriately and inability to identify errors in a given piece of writing have been well-covered.The different books that we have read during this course present the authors claims about writing. The various ideas that are put forward can together result to quality writing among learners today. It is seen that every author addresses a certain area in writing. In general, it is seen that words matter. Moreover, the style of writing is also a cherished asset. Writing should be done from a unique perspective and with a clear voice and style.

After reading James Williams book, I find that it is not easy for me to find errors in a piece of writing unless I am specifically looking for them. I think that in order for me to achieve more improvement, I should develop more interest in reading, just as Williams states. Through this method, I will be able to find more the errors and minimize those that I am used to making when writing. Moreover, I think that by reading an essay in a manner that is not reflexive, I tend to identify fewer errors. Therefore, my view is that that by re-reading and looking for simple errors, it is possible to identify them and even have them fixed. This can be interpreted to mean that we can identify common errors in a piece of writing only if we are looking for them. Otherwise, one can read through a given piece of writing, and fail to identify any error. I do not disagree with the author since I can relate to all that he is informing us about. My Views About Writing
