Global warming and Global dimming

In the recent years, it has become clearer that air pollution has a negative effect on the radiation reaching the earth surface since it has the potential of masking the warming ability of the sun. Global warming on the other hand is a more common phenomenon that is majorly associated with excessive air pollutants that cause variations in the temperature and the effects have been climatic changes. The climatic changes have occurred at a faster rate than it was predicted and there is fear that global warming may reach a point of no return and thus permanently alter the weather patterns.  The measures that are supposed to reduce global warming by removing the pollutants in the atmosphere have resulted to global dimming in some areas and thus this paper will explore the various technologies that explain the dilemma.

Many of the technologies and methods applied in solving the problem of global warming have involved efforts to either remove or reduce the emissions in the atmosphere. One such technology has involved the space mirrors and strategies of changing the chemical composition of the atmosphere. The chemical composition according to the strategy can be changed through aerosol spraying in the atmosphere, which in turn not only absorb some of the radiation from the sun but will also cause the clouds to reflect back the harmful radiations.  Consequently, the problem of global warming will be solved to some extent but unfortunately, such technology if adapted is likely to have many negative consequences. The reason behind the many negative effects that may be associated with such a technology is that many other living things depend on the radiation from the sun for their survival.

A good example is the dependence by green plants on the radiation from the sun for their photosynthesis process and a high level of the sprays may impede the activities of astronomers especially during the night. The oceans and the seas are also likely to be negatively affected since they absorb a lot of the pollutants from the air and may thus become more acidic and unfortunately, there are no existing safe procedures of removing or reducing the acidity.  Such measures are also likely to attract disputes concerning the countries that are responsible for controlling the various space operations and may work against the poor and developing nations.
