GET READY TO BREATH

As you decide to start working out, many choices might come across your mind. However, you definitely want the more beneficial and effective choice for your body in particular. When I go to the gym or simply do some daily housework, unconsciously I think that the oxygen I’m inhaling is burning sugar molecules. You might have heard that holding your breath during working out might increase the intensity and make you stronger. However, I personally believe breathing can facilitate your workouts even the intense ones.

HOW OXYGEN AND CELL ENERGY ARE RELATED?

when you are breathing, you inhale many gas for the air mainly oxygen. In a return you exhale carbon dioxide coming from the burned sugar as the cellular respiration process is completed. The cycle of energy in a cell goes on in three stages: glycolysis, Krebs cycle, and electron transport chain. In a normal scenario, the three stages take place starting with a single sugar molecule and oxygen generating massive amount of energy in a form of ATP and waste products as water and carbon dioxide( you exhale CO2 ). Otherwise, things will take another pathway with different products.

WHAT HAPPENES IF YOU LIMIT THE OXYGEN AMOUT?GET READY TO BREATH

If you decide to hold your breath, your body will still find a sneaky way to generate more energy because your cells do not want to die. They will find out there is not enough oxygen after the first stage, Glycolysis, is done. Here where your body will switch gears and start the anaerobic respiration. A different pathway will take place to generate minimal energy and byproducts of lactic acid  and carbon dioxide, which is called fermentation.

IS HOLING YOUR BREATH WHILE WORKING OUT BAD FOR YOU?

Yes. Your body want to be stable and feel safe. Limiting oxygen by holding breaths, your cells will seek anaerobic respiration pathway generating minimal amount of energy in order to preform. At the same time, carbon dioxide and lactic acid will build up in your muscles. This accumulation of the metabolic  byproducts are what causes post-exercise muscle soreness and fatigue. Also taking a deep breath and hold it when lifting heavy weights, limit the blood from reaching to you muscles when they need it. Improper breathing can increase the blood pressure where in suffer cases leads to black outs ( azcentral ).

The word breathing itself sounds relaxing. Weightlifting is an intense workout that needs longer recovery time between sets. By breathing probably during the workout, you can reduce the recovery time. Because of the intensity of a workout alone will make you breath rapidly. Imagine if you hold your breath even if it was an easy exercise, definitely you will need more time to relax between sets ( builtlean ).
