Essay on Working for Morning Star

  1. Working for Morning Star would be different from working at a traditional, bureaucratic company in the following ways: To begin with, when working for Morning Star one would be required to take responsibility of running his or her activities. This would require one to be fully in charge of what they run in the organization. One has to develop managerial skills as well as problem solving abilities since whenever a problem rises at Morning Star the different individuals are the ones to solve them. Hence, one becomes even more motivated since they feel like they own the organization and are part of the organization. On the other hand, working for a traditional bureaucratic organization will require one to follow orders from those above. When there is a problem, one has to report the issue to supervisors or managers who will then have the responsibility of solving the problem. In a traditional bureaucratic organization, an employee will have a set of rules to follow while accomplishing their activities and they will also be under close scrutiny. They therefore will lack the freedom of doing the activities the best way they think they should be done and instead they will have to follow a certain standard way of executing activities. The most positive aspect of working in an organization like Morning Star is the freedom of making ones activities as well as increase in one’s ability to solve problems. It will make one be able to work under minimal supervision. The negative aspect is that one might find herself or himself working in a chaotic environment since the employees have freedom and they tend to do what they believe is best line of action and as such there are always high chances of disagreements.Essay on Working for Morning Star
  2. I believe lattice structure is the best for Morning Star organization since it has managed to bring growth of the organization. Through this structure, the company had been able to train its employees on taking initiative in what they do. The organization has been able to put the employees at the core. The employees do not need any supervision and in that way they have been able to save the company the costs involved with management. Moreover, lattice structure has been effective in promoting the mission of the company since the employees are required to come up with their own personal mission statement that is in agreement with the objectives of the company. This helps to remind the employees what they are supposed to do in order to contribute to the overall organization growth. Another organization structure that can be in line with Morning Star’s culture of empowerment and self-management is flat organization structure. In flat organization structure, there is greater communication between the employees and management. This creates open communication in an organization, which is important in empowering employees as well as encouraging self- management. Moreover, in flat organization, decisions are made as needed basis. This will fit Morning Star organization since the decisions of these organizations are made by employees and can be said to be made as needed basis.Essay on Working for Morning Star
  3. This structure, lattice structure would be ineffective in organizations that require standard way of making decisions or executing activities. This is a type of organization that had a well-defined hierarchy and decisions are made at the top of the organization. In such an organization, lattice structure would be ineffective since employees will make decisions, which will then be overturned by those at the top or in management positions. What will make this organization structure difficult to implement in an organization with a centralized decision making is the requirement for management to rubber stamp all decisions made by employees. This would waste time and other resources, which will add more costs to the organization. It will also demotivate employees since they will have a feeling that their decisions are not important and they have to be reviewed by the management.Essay on Working for Morning Star
