Differences and similarities between the united state and Canadians academic assessments

The academic assessments of both United States and Canada seem to be very interesting considering they are all American countries. In Canada education systems evolved way back from france Britain and also from the northern borders of the united states, these implys that the academic assessments of these two countries are more similar in many ways. Also the education system in Canada resembles education systems in france as well as the united kingdm and that’s why there are some differences between the two countries.  Education system of US traces back in the 1600s in England colonies namely; massachusettsts, the new hamphire and also commecticut. During this period education was only reseved for the rich people that can afford to go to school considering how expensive it was.

Similarities on academic assessements between the US and Canada

both countries have similar education systems in that they both have three levels that is they both start with elementary school whereby at the age of 5-6 they attend kindergarten until they graduate (Clark 21)  there after they attend junior high and later gor to high school where they are able to graduate with a diploma and then proceed to pursue their higher education in their areas of specializations.Differences between united state and Canadians academic assessments

In both countries there is no intervention of the federal government in schools. The schools operate on their on which is very good because students in schools cannot study with fear of the federal government and therefore improve on the academic assignments.

When it comes to grading systems both US and Canada have similar methods. Both go upto grade 12 for compulsory education, they start with kindergarten which is grade 1- 4 at the of five to six years. Middle school that is junior high school are from grade 5-8 . then we have the final grade that is 9-12 which is senior high school also called secondary school from 15 – 18 years of age ( woessmann,  10) therefore enhances their skills and perform nice on the academic assessments.

In Canada different schools have different ways of grading the performance of the student. Grading the students  depends on the territories where you study. Examples we have british Columbia, Alberta, Ontario new brunswik and many more territories (Davidson and laurie 290). For instance in my experience, the university of Alebrta, A+ plus is translated to grade 4.0 point. In the united states institutions have similar latter grade like Canadian institutions. In US letter grades are A+, A, A-, B+, B to F. when a student is graded as F it means that the student has poorly performed on the cademic asssignments. These show that both Canadian universities and US universities have a similar way of grading the students.

Both Canadian and US Schools utilize or rather make use of  numeric values to grade the students. Canadian school use numeric values like 90-100% percent which is also A+ letter grade showing excellent prfomance to 0-59% percent meaning poor perfomce of a student (Zhang et al. 33). These differes in different schools in Canada but all schools use numerical values to grade their students. The US schools make use of both numeric values, letter grades and and grading point for the students.

Oral feedback is one of the best methods used to ensure that not one students  is corrected but everyone else in the classroom, its through this that students remember and acquire  more knowledge that after corrections are made it is hard to forget ulike. Both Canadian schools as US schools prefer  both oral feedback and written for future referenes.

Canadian schools are very diverse. Around 50% percent of Canadians human population are from other parts of the realm ( McCrimmon, 235). Internationally the Canadians  schools are the most performing schools when it comes to international assessements sicce they contain people of different diversity. The united states is also diverse but when it comes to performance Canada is way much better.

Grading assignments differ from one proffesser to another, from one institution to another,  from one individual field of specialization to another as well as from one school to another school, with all these considerations in place canada has the best education system and therefore the garding is  better compared to US.

Conclusion

Its evidence that with many similarities that schools in Canada and the united states have on academic assessement there are still differences on their academic systems. When it comes to academic grading systems both Canada and US  use letter grade and and numeric values to grade the students. The use of numeric values and points is best because the student understands the level of performance and improvement from one one academic test to another . Seemingly Canadian schools receive high quality education with relative to US education. Currently many countries are adopting the grading systems fro Canada and the united states because to acqure a good career choice it is necessary to to acquire knowledge and skill and perform good as well
