Centralized staffing function is the accrual of all responsibilities and duties relating to the recruitment of staff into only one unit while decentralized staffing function depicts a setting whereby a manager is the sole person responsible for recruitment within his or her section. Centralized staffing function has several benefits over the decentralized staffing function.
Centralized staffing enables the upper management to effectively monitor the staffing process and ensure that the managers observe the federal and state laws. When managers administer discriminatory questions, this could foster complaints against the employer. Centralized staffing function ensures that this problem does not occur.
Centralized staffing function reduces the recruitment costs. Through centralization of the staffing function, the staffing department can evince the company how best to spend their recruitment money and where it can reduce costs. Moreover, it recommends the best ways of reducing costly hiring mistakes to the employer, since the cost of replacing bad hires can be twice higher than the cost of recruitment.
Most of the companies have discordant environment or culture that fosters certain values, tenets, and behaviors. There are certain cultures that stress teamwork while others stress the need for continuous improvement. Companies usually maintain their culture through their staff, for instance, an individual who prefers working alone may find it difficult performing in a team-oriented working environment.
