STRATEGY TO USE TO TEACH SOCIAL STUDIES CONCEPT
(USE OF SOCIAL MEDIA)
To make social studies more fun and well understood, the use of technology might be applicable. My space, use of WhatsApp and others like Facebook can be used perfectly. Due to technological advancement these can be used to create profiles about historical issues and persons. Since reading the textbooks is boring for students, social media can replace it by ensuring all the information about the past is summarized in pictures, songs and videos.
As a technological strategy phones and computers can be used to create profile and acquire a page the knowledge of how to create a social media page is easier just like any other website. From this, one gets to know how to share pictures, compose songs and videos. This should be acquired before the implementation. Demonstration on how to have a creative background where a student can relate to a resource person directly or indirectly is done in order to acquire more information. (Skaar)
After creating a page one can invite friends to like or share the idea on the page, one can interact directly with historical personalities discussed in the social studies syllabus. The learners can also acquire pictures and photographs from the area of study. The characters can also be contacted directly to give the firsthand information about their situation, their contribution to social studies, achievements and failures he or she encounters through this experience one is able to argue out basing on facts only.
The links between the students and the studies therefore becomes easier since, apart from using the social media there is direct relationship and sharing of important links on email. The friends in social media platforms relate directly with you through different websites Social media and web pages. The use of technological gadgets like phone and computers arouse the reasoning of the one getting the information hence easy to interpret and apply the knowledge. The concrete knowledge is acquired from friends, different social media pages and firsthand information. Constructive argument can be done too through the same platform where, ideas are exchanged, discussion made and conclusion arrived at. The modernism in the strategies can be used in an anticipated manner where the same information can be shared with the fellow learners. This will encourage more learning technologically and spread of knowledge. When we have a topic which discusses about the geographical or topographical view of a place, photos can be acquired shared through the phones and computer linked with social media. Different arguments and views are given, hence an avenue to argue, to differ, and agree on the facts. After sharing of the pictorial evidence and demonstration is done the conclusion is now found and room for more research or is now given.
In addition to that, videos and natural phenomenon happening in different places and historical events in some sequence can be displayed in video form. This can be done in class and also individual review. For instance, when discussing using the social media a concept like culture is discussed in details and analyzed considering other opinions from friends in the social media platform. (Skaar)
Dealing with social study concepts, different rites of passage like initiation, marriage and birth can be taken as examples where videos, pictures and resource persons who are friends and those in a particular social can be used. The information gotten from them can be through the videos showing the cultural activities of several communities. Some information about the rituals and culture together with their importance can be acquired from the friends and other interested parties and learners. The videos shared can bring more information of specific communities where comparison and contrasting information can be given. The fact about culture is now pointed out through the fact from the participants themselves hence, perfect evidence. The type of songs sang during these cultural functions can be shared through the same pages and some virtues, language and dance can also be shared.
Photos, videos, and pictures can also serve as the evidence for some conflicting ideas. It can also be the source of easy reference since it can be stored safely and avoid distortion. The information acquired through this is more concrete and easily recalled due to the wide research perspective.
The artifact on this can be pictures or videos downloaded from the social media groups. The same can be saved in the page where during the presentation it can be shared technologically through inviting other learners on the same social media page. In case one needs to get updated information the link can be given to join the site and get the information direct from other learners. Portraits, charts, films can be created through the use the social media creativity group. Since technology has been used more in this it reduces the wastage of time in research as the downloaded, analyzed information can be used as the evidence to get information about concepts in social studies.
